TEMPORARY CLOSING – September 18th-November 15th at Letort Spring Garden Preserve parking lot and Melester Barn for ADA trail construction.
In 1996, Beverly and Robert Grening donated 23 acres of forestland to CPC in memory of their son, Greg. The following year, the Grenings donated an additional 10-acre tract. Gregory Alan Grening had a special fondness for the woods behind his parents’ home and he championed the protection of those woods for most of his life. Following his service in the Marine Corp, Greg enrolled in community college and was engaged to be married, but he tragically lost his life in an accident at the age of 22.
The two adjacent parcels of land that are preserved in Greg’s memory are entirely wooded, one being mostly wetland and the other a ridge. The area is open to the public and an easy loop trail has been established. Motorized vehicles not allowed.
Greg’s Woods is approximately 50 minutes north of Harrisburg off US-322. Take the Port Royal Exit and follow the signs to Mexico. In the village of Mexico, park at the ball field. The entrance to Greg’s Woods is to the left of the ballpark.
