Rain Garden Planting at The Letort!

May 20 @ 9:00 am - 1:00 pm

Join us for the finishing touches on the Letort Spring Garden Preserve’s new rain gardens!

rain garden is a shallow, landscaped depression planted with deep-rooted native plants that collects and soaks up rainwater runoff from hard surfaces like roofs and driveways. These gardens are designed to filter pollutants, reduce flooding, and recharge groundwater by allowing stormwater to infiltrate the soil instead of flowing directly into storm drains.

With a grant from The Partnership for Better Health, this fall CPC was able to install 2 rain gardens at The Letort Spring Garden Preserve in Carlisle. Local Native Landscape Designer Soil and Ink generously donated her professional services for the design and planting concept for each rain garden. Excavation of the rain gardens was achieved with precision and speed by Wild Habitat Improvement Specialist Inc. The gutter realignment and downspouting was completed by Newburg Seamless gutter. With all of these wonderful local contractors, designers and organizations we will be able to capture hundreds of gallons of water each year to water and sustain native plants.
